Poker Parties as of
No Hard Rock
Casino
Soon there will be a new Hard Rock Casino opening up where I
live, which will include roulette tables, blackjack tables,
shitloads of slots, and large, well ventilated poker rooms.
There is much talk about the casino where I live and we all
really can't wait until it opens up. Until then, we have
to play at the regular Indian Reservation, where there is no
blackjack or roulette tables, and where there is a poker room
the size of my attic.
In this poker
room there are ten tables, bunched together, which means over
100 people plus the dealers and spectators, probably 50% of
which are smokers. Therefore, when I walked into the poker
room last night, full ready to take everybody's money, I
walked right out, after I saw the clouds that I couldn't see
through.
Did I say that
we can't wait until the Hard Rock Casino opens up?
Anyway, the
smoke, and the 14 person wait for a table forced me to bring
my money elsewhere. The only other elsewhere to go was
downstairs, to the slots. As a poker player, there is
nothing I hate more than the monotony and sheer luck of
rolling cherries and 7's. As a lover of money, there is
nothing I like more than the ringing of bells and the pictures
of turning fruit.
To make a long
story short, I went downstairs to
play slots, put 20 dollars
in a dime machine as a goof, and won 1200 in 15 minutes.
Yes, this is a unbelievably rare occasion, but it happened.
So, I say, screw
the poker room at the casino. Until the Hard Rock opens
up, you will find me either at the reservation slot machines
or at
Empire Poker, online.
Drunken Poker
As a seasoned Indian Reservation party poker player you must
recognize times when you should not be betting, or perhaps
even playing, and last night was one of those times for me.
I arrived at the Reservation at 2 a.m after a night of
3 shots and 5 beers and we went straight to the bar when we
got to the casino. We stayed there for about an hour
bullshitting about spring training,
talking to strippers who were off for the night, and
we ended up doing more shots before the ladies left to go
spend their money.
Finally, we left to go to the poker
room and, having a hard time standing up straight on the
elevator, it occurred to me that maybe I shouldn't be
betting.
We couldn't get
in on stud so we settled for a texas hold 'em table. We figured it wouldn't be too bad
because at least at hold 'em we could win the bad beat which was up to
35,000 dollars. As it turned out I didn't get anything better
than a 5-9 offsuited, so I didn't play much,
a good, but boring decision.
However, I did find out about the
100th anniversary of the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg from
the young sophisticate sitting next to me and I think I
will travel to see that this weekend. So I guess it
wasn't a complete waste of a night.
Wish there was more poker
shit to talk about, wish I won the bad beat, wish a lot of
things, but last night I was more into the party than I was
the poker. |
